"We can't always build the future for the youth but we can build the youth for the future"
Jalen Sanders, a Charlotte native, has always had a love for sports and more specifically basketball. Growing up, he spent countless hours on the court, honing his skills and developing a deep appreciation for the game. Jalen's talent and hard work earned him the opportunity to play collegiately at Appalachian State University, where he also pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Finance.
After completing his undergraduate studies and playing career, Jalen decided to combine his passion for basketball with his interest in sports management. He joined the coaching staff at Hampton University while simultaneously earning a Masters Degree in Sports Administration. Despite being away from his hometown, Jalen remained active in the Charlotte basketball community, keeping his finger on the pulse of the game and the needs of the youth.
It was through these experiences that Jalen realized the need for a program that could provide Charlotte's youth with high-quality basketball instruction and mentorship. Thus, he founded Who Got Game CLT, a program that combines top-notch basketball training with mentorship and academic support. Today, Jalen continues to lead the organization, using his knowledge and experience to inspire and empower the next generation of Charlotte basketball players and leaders of the community.
"Failing to prepare is preparing to fail"
Coach Mobley aka "Coach Mob" is a Charlotte native who grew up playing basketball. His leadership skills and intensity on the court were apparent from a young age, and his teammates knew that he would one day make a great coach. Coach Mobley's ability to motivate his team and lead them to victory in challenging situations was a hallmark of his playing days. This led to a natural transition into coaching, where he has excelled in developing and motivating young players to achieve their best.
He holds a Bachelor's degree in Biology from North Carolina A&T, where he learned the importance of hard work and dedication. Today, Coach Mobley is the Head JV Men's Basketball Coach at West Charlotte, a position he has held since 2020. His coaching philosophy is grounded in the belief that preparation is key to success.
Coach Mobley lives by the quote, "Failing to prepare is preparing to fail." To him, this means that success cannot be achieved without proper preparation. His commitment to preparing our campers for success both on and off the court is evident in his daily interactions with our attendees.

Jerome Sanders, also known as Coach JL, was born and raised in Charlotte, NC, where he developed a love for sports from a young age. Basketball and football quickly became his favorites. After graduating from Appalachian State University with a degree in Business Management, Coach JL found an opportunity to share his knowledge and passion for sports at the David B. Waymer Rec Center.
At the rec center, Coach JL has had the opportunity to work with young athletes in a variety of sports, including track, soccer, football, and basketball. When it comes to basketball Coach JL is dedicated to teaching the fundamentals of the game, from mastering techniques inside the paint to developing a love and passion for the sport itself.
Through his coaching, Coach JL hopes to inspire the next generation of basketball players to work hard, stay focused, and never give up on their dreams. His own love for the game, honed over years of playing and coaching, shines through in his dedication to helping young athletes succeed on and off the court.
"Tough times don't last tough people do"
Janay Sanders, also known as Coach Nay, was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. As a student at Mallard Creek High School, she made a name for herself on the basketball court, holding the record for the most wins during her time there. Her talent and dedication to the game earned her a spot on the Appalachian State University basketball team, where she continued to shine as a player and a leader.
Coach Nay scored over 1,000 points and played a key role on the team throughout her collegiate career. In 2022, she graduated with a degree in Computer Information Systems, and is currently on track to recieve her Master's in Business Administration with a concentration in Supply Chain Management in 2023.Coach Nay's love for basketball began at the age of 3, and it has been a constant source of joy and inspiration in her life ever since. She is passionate about giving back to the game as well as the community that has given so much to her. Through her counseling, she hopes to instill a love and passion for the game in the youth of today, just as she experienced as a young athlete. Coach Nay's dedication to basketball and to the community is truly inspiring as she continues to pursue her own goals of becoming a professional basketball player.
"Rest in the end, not in the middle"
Andrew Dickerson, also known as Coach Drew, is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina. From a young age, he was drawn to basketball. As he grew older, Coach Drew's passion for the game led him to coaching.
From 2020 to 2022, Coach Drew served as the Northside Christian Academy Head Middle School and Assistant JV Boys & Varsity Girls basketball coach, helping young athletes develop their skills and grow as players. He then took on a new challenge as the lead advisor for West Charlotte JV Basketball in 2022, where he continued to inspire and motivate players.
Coach Drew's dedication to basketball is matched by his commitment to education. He recently graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he obtained a Bachelors in African American studies. For Coach Drew, basketball is more than just a game – it's a tool for connecting with and inspiring future leaders of the community. His vision is to create positive life experiences for young people through the sport, helping to shape the next generation of leaders.
